In May of 2022, Mercedes invited ten of their richest clients to a secret auction in Germany to sell a 1 of 2 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe, for $142 million.
The car was built in 1955 and is a copy of the roadster version race car that won every single race it finished. And while this one never raced, it was driven by the guy who designed it (Rudolf Uhlenhaut) and has been stored in a secret vault for the last 70 years!
Mercedes says it will use the money from the sale to launch a scholarship program for students working on projects to help fight climate change!
